Electricians
There have been some cases where electricians carry out only a visual examination of appliances and many cases where some
electricians who use (and thought that using) an Insulation Resistance and Continuity Tester alone would achieve all the
required tests as per the Standard.
These testers cannot carry out all the required tests on a wide variety of modern appliances such as televisions, microwave ovens, computers, printers and photocopiers as well as industrial equipment such as compressors and lathes.
While many electricians do appreciate the complexity of modern electrical appliances, their main responsibility lies in
the safe installation and maintenance of the fixed wiring of buildings and other premises.
Some simply haven't taken the time to expand their expertise beyond their trade or are ill-informed of the tests needed to carry out effective safety testing of appliances.
